We can help you to discover more about the role your ancestors played in the Great War, and learn more about the movements and involvement of a particular Battalion or Regiment.
Let us identify ancestors who served their country during the 19th or 20th Centuries and trace their movements during significant historical events.
World War 1 Research - Sailor, Soldier or Airman
We use a number of on-line sources in combination to find out more about the military service of an individual serviceman. An initial piece of research would be a three-hour project which would focus on available details of a military career, as well more general research on the life of the serviceman and his immediate family.
Please note that due to the destruction of many WW1 records during the Second World War, military research results may vary in depth and detail.
For some servicemen, the initial three hours of research may indicate that it might be possible to extend the project further. Additional research can be carried out for an hourly fee.
£50, for three hours of research. £15, per hour for any additional hours requested on the same project
World War 1 Research - Battalion
On-line sources are used to trace the movements of a Battalion during the First World War, cross-referenced with historical records and biographies to identify the involvement of a Battalion in specific skirmishes, battles and campaigns.
Notable soldiers serving with that Battalion and details of any honours awarded may be identified. Research will also include a selection of pages and transcripts from the War Diary of the Battalion.
£145, per Battalion
War Diary Transcription
A War Diary provides a fascinating account of the day to day experience of the Battalion. It rarely mentions individual soldiers by name, although officers are mentioned more regularly.
Through its War Diary we get an 'at the coal face' view of the movement and action of each Battalion and this can really help you to get a better understanding of the experiences of a soldier of Battalion. Denham Johnson Battlefields can transcribe specific sections of the requested Battalion log for you.
£5 per 15 minutes of transcription time
National Archives Visit
Ask us to complete research tasks on your behalf at the National Archives, Kew, chargeable at an hourly rate.
You may be able to specify the exact document you wish us to locate, we can then photograph or transcribe it; or it may that you have a specific objective but are not sure what sources may be available to complete the task, we can help.
Research tasks do not need to have a military basis and can relate to sources from the 19th and 20th centuries, or earlier if those records are available at the National Archives.
£20 per hour of research time
