It’s Your Tour

Your bespoke Battlefields experience – our objective is to make sure you have complete control over the tour that you make with us. You decide how long you want your visit to be, and the areas you would like to visit.

We will create the route and plan the itinerary to meet your wishes, whether that is a four day/ three night tour, a three day/ two night tour or a tour length of your own choosing.  Your own military family history or special area of military interest can form the basis of the tour; if you have particular servicemen that you wish to pay tribute to, or a specific campaign that you wish to follow then we can create a plan to suit you.

Your tour can include the visits to Commonwealth War Grave Commission Cemeteries and museums of interest to you and can also include walking the battlefield or walks around small towns or villages.  If a visit to Ypres and the Menin Gate is on your wish list, with sufficient notice, it may be possible for us to arrange for you to lay a wreath at their nightly Last Post Ceremony.  It may also be possible for you bear a standard at this ceremony (we can provide any training that you might need).

Menin Gate

On a Denham Johnson Battlefield tour, you will be travelling in a group of no more than six people, formed from no more than three separate parties.

This ensures that the requirements of each member of the group are as compatible with each other as possible and allows us to organise the bespoke tour that you want.

Transport

The planning process will include working with you to make decisions about whether we pick you up from your own house, or arrange to meet you at a transport ‘hub’.  Channel crossings are usually made via Eurotunnel but occasionally a ferry crossing will be made.  Road travel depends on the number of participants on each tour and will be in a comfortable nine-seater car or a small minibus, with experienced drivers who regularly make European trips.

Accommodation and Meals

Three and four star hotels, with private facilities and breakfast are included in the price of the tour.  Hotels are chosen for their convenience in order to minimise unnecessary travel and all hotels used have good reviews.

On each day of the tour there will be provision for you to stop for lunch at a restaurant or cafe, or time made in the morning for you to purchase a packed lunch for the day.  The hotel accommodation that we use will have its own restaurant or has restaurants within easy walking distance.  It is our ambition to ensure that you have total choice in the arrangements that you make for lunch and your evening meal.

Prices for all tours include:

  • a dedicated tour guide and tour manager
  • motor transport (9-seater car or small minibus)
  • channel crossing (Eurotunnel or ferry)
  • hotel bed and breakfast accommodation (3* or 4*)
  • itinerary and route planning
  • 10 hours of genealogy research per client
  • battlefields information pack
  • personal family history information pack
  • poppy grave tributes.

Clients will need to arrange their own travel insurance and will also need to purchase lunches and evening meals and any other refreshments required on each day of the tour.
